Gilles Aillaud
1928, Paris – 2005, Paris.
Gilles Aillaud was a painter, illustrator, poet, playwright and philosopher. During his adolescence, he painted a canvas per day in the Parisian Jardin des Plantes, an act which ultimately determined his favourite subject: animals. Whether confined in zoos, roaming free in the savannah, captured in close up or almost indiscernible in vast landscapes, they continued to inspire him throughout his life, resulting in a deeply moving body of paintings and drawings of rare intensity.
