Fabien Mérelle
1981, Fontenay-aux-Roses, France
After studying at the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts in China Fabien Mérelle went on to graduate from the Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2006. He enjoyed a residency at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid in 2007 and was the first winner of the Canson Prize in 2010. Two years later, he entered the collections of the Pompidou Centre thanks to the Guerlain donation. His works in black ink and watercolours find their inspiration in a tender yet cruel depiction of his everyday life. His drawings often narrate the tribulations of a single character, eternally dressed in blue striped pajamas and a white T-shirt.
