Gérard Traquandi
1952, Marseille.
After graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille in 1975, he went on to teach there until the mid-1990s. When this major figure of non-figurative painting leaves the confines of his studio, he escapes into nature. This is where artistic respite awaits him, far from the Titanic work imposed by his large format works, where colours radiate in compositions that are both intuitive and accomplished. Outdoors, equipped with pencils or watercolours, he creates with infinite delicacy, portraits from life of trees, each one an individual in its own right.
